Profiles International Identifies Crucial Behaviors for Customer-Facing Employees

There are many Ethical and Social issues with the proposal offered. The largest Ethical issue is trusting a volunteer or part time employee with bringing a patient from Triage to PACe and delivering medical records from the provider to the doctor. There are many areas in which fraud and occur. While these are both valid points of insecurity, the right controls can be implemented to alleviate the most nervous individual. Volunteers are trained to keep sensitive information to themselves and are already trusted in very classified areas, such as bed transport, visiting patents, and information. These abilities would all be used together in one or two responsibilities. Volunteers who pass the process are subject to various background checks, and must have at least two evaluations before being accepted. This seems to be similar to the employment practices for full time employees at Grady. Because of this time consuming and difficult entrance process volunteers should be shown the same respect as employees. This includes delegation of responsibilities (not medical related). There is a common misconception that just because one is not getting paid, they are not eligible for important responsibilities. This behavior must be reprimanded. This shows distrust in the system. One must believe that the system works for it to.

The hyperlinked news article above focuses on the idea of trust between both the business and customer, but also among employees. The article is quoted as saying, "What we have found throughout this research is that most of these behaviors are innate. It's possible to learn them, but that takes time and an inordinate amount of commitment from all parties involved...". This explains that trust is possible but one must eliminate reconstructed expectations on performance and ability. This ties into this topic because both patients and other employees must trust in this new volunteer or part time employee to make the correct judgments if they want to be utilized to their maximum potential.
